I don't know what you've got
But it's getting to me Makes my cold nights hot Hot wind just goes right through me Billy's early band, The Hassles, had developed a regional following in the Northeast and released two albums, The Hassles (1967) and Hour of The Wolf (1969). While they had a psychedelic sound to them, the group did record a soul song on the first album, Sam & Dave's "You've Got Me Hummin'" featuring Billy on vocals. This version is on My Lives.
Sixteen years later in 1983, Billy released another version of the song as the B-side to the "Tell Her About It" re-mix. This version is much better but you can't find it on any album, not even on My Lives (but listen to the video, above right).
Billy inducted Sam & Dave into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992, with an interesting discussion on the development of rock and soul music (see video, right). Billy knows his rock music history
