You're liftin' me high above my ordinary place
"You Look So Good To Me" is probably the weakest song on Cold Spring Harbor. It's a frivolous and jaunty ditty. It's mildly catchy, but not memorable. Billy was just 22 years old when he wrote this, not everything he does can be stellar.
Peter Gambaccini in his 1979 book Billy Joel stated: "'You Look So Good To Me' may be a tad trivial, but it is archetypal pop music that, with slightly clearer production and more promotion, might have been a hit single five years earlier. Among other things, it shows that Billy Joel is an astute observer of American popular music history." The same could probably be said about the whole album Cold Spring Harbor. |
Words and Music by Billy Joel Ah, you look so good to me With my eyes open wide, I can see Ah, you feel so good to me And it's so good when you're here 'cause I'm free Feelin' the glory from that smile upon your face You're liftin' me high above my ordinary place And I am so happy when I'm in your warm embrace Ah, you look so good to me With my eyes open wide, I can see Ah, you feel so good to me And who knows what your next move will be? Ah, you look so good to me With my eyes open wide, I can see Ah, you feel so good to me And it's so good when you're here 'cause I'm free "You Look So Good To Me" © 1971, 1983 Sony Music Entertainment.
